Abstract: Diabetes is a disease that is characterized by excessive glucose in the blood stream. Type 1 diabetes is a chronic illness where the cells in the pancreas that make insulin are destroyed, and the body is no longer able to produce insulin. Patients with type 1 diabetes require lifelong insulin therapy. Most require two or more injections of insulin daily, with doses adjusted based on self-monitoring of glucose levels.
